NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health
The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health is established as a leading award in construction health and safety and was first introduced in 1989. It is designed to provide a sound breadth of underpinning knowledge that enables people to discharge more effectively their duties or functions with respect to health and safety in construction activities. Such people include site managers, planning supervisors, employee representatives etc.
The NEBOSH Construction Certificate aims to provide those making day-to-day decisions in construction work with a broad knowledge of health and safety in order to ensure that the health and safety implications of their decisions are properly taken into account. The vast majority of occupational injuries and incidents of ill-health are avoidable by good health and safety management; and good health and safety management is an essential element of good overall management.

Such people include newly appointed safety advisers without previous experience; managers and supervisors with part-time responsibility for health and safety; and safety representatives.
For those appointed as part-time safety advisers the National General Certificate should give an adequate base for their work. However, for those with full-time responsibilities as safety advisers, particularly in the more hazardous industries, further training will be required. Such people should consider obtaining the additional qualification of the NEBOSH National Diploma; or a NEBOSH Specialist Certificate such as the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health if they are working in a relevant industry
